What is the Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program?

The Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program is a hands-on training initiative designed to prepare individuals for careers in early childhood education. Apprentices receive both college instruction and practical experience in early childhood centers.

Who is eligible to apply?

Anyone who has their Associate Teacher permit.

What qualifications will I earn?

You will get your Associates in Early Childhood from Skyline college.

How long does the program last?

The apprenticeship typically lasts for two years. It may be shorter depending on how many classes you have taken.

Are apprentices paid and what are my responsibilities?

You will continue to work your regular job. You will also receive technology for class and a stipend of $2000 when you graduate. You will also get a pay increase at that time.

Is there a cost to participate?

There is no cost to participate. Wu Yee will pay for all of your college courses.

When does the program start?

The program will start in January 2025.

What support is available for apprentices?

Apprentices receive mentorship from your lead teacher, your coach and your center manager. Additionally, they will receive support from a success coach to support balancing school, work and life.

Can I continue my education while in the program?

Yes! We can support you after your AA to work on steps to a BA.

What career opportunities are available after completing the program?

Upon completion,graduates will be eligible for lead teacher and home visitor roles.

I am taking classes at City college, can I transfer to Skyline?

Yes, Skyline will honor courses from City College. You would just transfer colleges for your AA pathway.

Why join this instead of getting my AA on my own?

This is a cohorted model and you will have your coworkers and other San Francisco educators working together. You will have supports put in place through the program for study sessions, group conversations, and more. We will also support with tutors if needed.
